Jan 17 Superintendent Update Graphic

January 17, 2024

Good afternoon, Warren Scholars, Families, and Staff,

We have a couple of important announcements for the week of January 17th.

Last week, I shared that Warren Central High School is seeking board approval to shift to a block schedule beginning in the 2024-2025 school year. Block scheduling is a way of designing daily schedules for students. Simply put, students will have fewer classes that will have extended time per day, but the subjects will rotate on a daily basis. A block schedule provides additional flexibility in providing relevant and meaningful learning experiences for our students both in the classroom and in the community with work-based learning. It also provides additional opportunities to support students' academic and social needs. There is a public work session scheduled for tonight at 6 pm to discuss the proposal and feedback collected. The board will be asked to approve this proposal for the 2024-2025 school year. The work session will be held in person at the Warren Education Community Center at 975 North Post Road and will be streamed online. That link can be found here on our District website.

We are still collecting feedback through a parent survey linked below.

Our elementary schools are working hard to get their 3rd graders prepared for the upcoming IREAD3 assessment in March. 3rd-grade families will see several opportunities to engage and learn more about IREAD3 and how to help assist and support their students in reading. All of our elementary schools will be hosting a second IREAD3 parent night in January. Additional details will be provided in your schools' newsletters. If you have any questions or concerns about your child's reading, please contact our child's teacher or Principal.

MSD Warren Township and the Warren School Board will be hosting its Annual Legislative Forum on Saturday, February 3rd from 9:00 - 11:00 am. This event will be held at the Warren Education and Community Center at 975 North Post Road. Parents, staff, and community members are invited to attend to engage with District and school board leaders, local legislators, and our community on topics related to public education in the current legislative session. No registration is required.
