The Warren Central boys swim team is coming off one of their best seasons in years and is very proud of how they have performed as of recently. They are hoping to continue their success during the postseason at sectionals.

“We’ve had a great season so far. A lot of new people have joined and they have come up a lot from the beginning of the season. I can’t wait to see where it goes,” senior Tyler Trumpey said.

The team has been putting in a lot of hard work throughout the season in order to be as successful as possible and their hard work is shown throughout their performances as of late.

“The team has improved greatly this season. Each meet, Coach Gaither will have a personal record board, and I see at least ten personal records each meet. If we are improving this early into the season, I can’t wait to see what we do at the end,” Trumpey said.

The boys started off the season strong, but slowly seemed to lose their trend of success. However, they have quickly turned around and are looking better than they have all year and preparing for sectionals.

“We were all dedicated [throughout the season], but it started to fall off. However, now I feel as if we are focused again and ready for sectionals,” sophomore Simon Park said.

The Warriors competed very well at the MIC tournament over winter break, placing sixth above Ben Davis and Pike. Jaden Davis placed second overall in diving and has competed tremendously throughout the entire season.

“It felt great [to win MIC]. It felt as if all my hard work towards the sport was paying off,” Davis said. “I have an awesome coach that helping me through this.”

Davis is extremely thankful for his coaches and believes their dedication and persistence has made him a much better diver over the course of the year.

“I trust [our coach] a lot. He has a lot of experience with coaching diving, and he knows what I should be doing. He pushed me to be the best and won’t take anything less,” Davis said.

The swimmers faced the Pike Red Devils on Jan. 15 and took home a great win, scoring 112 points. To make this win even better, the Warriors celebrated senior night at the meet as well.

“I did enjoy it a lot. [Senior Night] was a very bittersweet experience because I was sad I was leaving a fantastic team, but I was also happy that I can continue on with my life,” Trumpey said.

The team then proceeded to participate at the Warrior Invitational and had one of their best meets of the season. The boys, along with the girls, won first place among the numerous other high schools that attended.

“I think that the Warrior Invitational was one of the best meets we have participated in along with county,” Park said.

The boys are looking forward to have a very successful sectionals run and are proud of how their regular season ended. They are setting high team and individual goals now that they know what they can accomplish.

“Our main goal as a team is to place third or fourth overall. Our 200 free relay, which we want to be first in, is our best chance of making it to state,” Trumpey said. “I personally would like to get first or second in the 200 freestyle and hopefully make it to state individually.”
